PRIVATE STUDENTS - 12-18 year olds  -  MONDAY through SATURDAY times

These students demonstrate a strong desire to make time in their lives to progress faster and futher than most typically busy piano students.  They take 45-60 minute private lessons throughout the year and strive to practice at least 3-4 hours per week to reach for higher goals in performance, competition, and repertoire.  They strive to enter various competitions both in performance and composition and take on extra performance goals at their schools or in their communities.

KEYBOARD MUSIC WORKS APPROACH:

I have found that many of the obstacles to learning piano can be overcome more easily and in a more exciting way with students learning in a piano class, especially for beginner piano.  They immediately understand the importance of practice, accuracy, and rhythm in order to keep up with their peers.  They learn from each other's mistakes, and they are motivated by each other's accomplishments.  And, we can cover much more in hour classes each week.
As my students become older and more advanced they work on sightreading, ensemble playing, technic, theory, and performance in the group lessons.  What may be most unique about my approach is teaching students to apply musical skills in various creative ways.  Our piano classes also teach arranging and composition.   Teaching creativity in a class setting opens up a wonderful musical dialogue between students. The arrangements become more complex and unique as the classes continue to advance.
What I try to develop is a well rounded musician with many skills beyond playing piano pieces at an advanced level.  I hope my students will be able to apply their musical knowledge in many settings for a lifetime of music!

level SIX - 15-18 year olds  -  TUESDAY 7:30

As of Fall 2017, these students have studied piano for eight or more years.  They will meet for class one week and a private lesson the opposite week during the school year.  They utilize their summer lessons to begin bigger pieces for the year for competitions and recitals.  These students are reaching higher levels of competitions and are creating their own arrangements and compositions.  They are busy high school students who still find time to progress at the piano.
